WORDS OF WISDOM
________________
To say "well done" to any bit of good work is to take hold of the powers, which have made the effort and strengthen them beyond our knowledge.
-Phillips Brooks
Be specific in your praise and you increase the chances of the good behavior being repeated often.
-Donna Long
Appreciative words are the most powerful force for good on earth.

SHOW THANKFULNESS TO YOUR TEAM
|
|
If you are doing your job as a leader correctly you are thanking team members for their contributions as they happen. In addition, you probably have some annual function to say thanks to the entire team as well. And these things are good.
But, if you're feeling that perhaps you're not the perfect leader and perhaps you don't say "thank you" often enough, here is an opportunity you should consider. Thanksgiving is just around the corner and it might be the perfect time to consider a very heartfelt, personal thank you. Even something as simple as a Thanksgiving card can be powerful. I don't mean a card that everyone would get with the same nice sentiment, personally signed by you. What I'm talking about is a hand-picked card for each individual on your team. One with a message specific to what they contribute to the team and organizational success. A message that is personally hand-written for each team member that expresses why you are thankful to have them as part of your team.
And... don't forget to include family members who forfeit time with their loved ones, your employees, so they can put in those extra hours when needed.
A simple, yet heartfelt thank you trumps impersonal party appearances and mass mail out holiday cards every time! |

THANKSGIVING CARD IDEAS FOR STAFF
|
|
If the above recommendation is one that you think might work for you, consider some of the following ideas:
- Use a simple card-making software to create and develop your own cards. This is a great way to personalize the cards to each individual
- Consider personalizing each card with a theme specific to the individual. Some potential themes include hobbies like boating, golfing, scrap-booking, bowling or photography. You might also consider spectator sports like football, baseball and basketball; or office photographs of employees working and/or at social functions.
- If you buy preprinted Thanksgiving cards, just be sure to include a personalized message. If you have 15 team members, sit down and work to come up with 15 different reasons you are thankful for these employees. This ensures that every card is different and specific to the individual.
- I personally love the music cards. If you have a smaller staff and can find enough different music cards, they make great keepsakes. If you can't find enough music cards, consider creating a CD (you can use i-tunes) as a way to dedicate a song to each staff member. Include the CD with a personalized card for fun.
